Whether you have sensitive skin or not, you will likely benefit from hypoallergenic makeup. Suppose you often do your makeup or are a makeup freak. In that case, you might find that your skin itches and gets irritated after applying a new makeup product. This is because most makeup products are not suitable for sensitive skin types.
Now you must wonder how hypoallergenic makeup will work and not irritate my sensitive skin; this article answers all your questions.
First, we must discuss sensitive skin and why it reacts to products very quickly.
What Is Sensitive Skin?
Sensitive skin reacts to an ingredient or a new climate very quickly. It can showcase this allergic reaction in redness, burning, irritation, stinging, or flaky skin. One of the most common reasons a sensitive skin type reacts to makeup or skincare products is the presence of fragrance. Therefore, people with sensitive skin are always advised to go for a patch test before spending their hard-earned money on makeup or skincare products.
What Is Hypoallergenic Makeup?
Hypoallergenic makeup contains ingredients that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction to your skin. This type of makeup is typically gentler on your skin and does not contain fragrance-rich ingredients. The ingredients in hypoallergenic makeup are derived from minerals that do not harbor bacteria or expire quickly.
Ingredients To Avoid
You should avoid buying makeup products which contain the following sensitizing ingredients:
- Fragrance
- Alpha-hydroxy acids
- Chemical sunscreens
- Mica
- Preservatives such as parabens, benzyl alcohol, formaldehyde, Diazolidinyl urea, butylparaben, and propylparaben
- Essential oils
- Retinol
These ingredients do not necessarily irritate all skin types. Still, it is safer to choose makeup products that are free from these ingredients. Instead, go for natural ingredients that include chamomile, licorice, and alpha-bisabolol.
People with sensitive skin types should go with hypoallergenic makeup. This includes matte makeup, a foundation without sunscreen or mineral sunscreen, and pencils for eyeliner instead of liquid eyeliners. It is also advisable to buy eyeshades in earth tones since these shades are formulated with minerals.
