The Difference between Eau de Parfum & Eau de Toilette

Actually, there is not only two format, but we can find four in most of fragrances and these are listed below.

Many people don’t really know what are the differences between these two format or categories when they decide to buy their new fragrance. For this reason, this article has been written to help you choose and learn the easy and the basic differences between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette.

It is also useful to know the different fragrances on the market. Perfume is not the same as Eau de Toilette or Eau de Cologne, even though in stores they display them all together on the same shelf.

Behind the different terms there is a different proportion of fragrances:

A product that is marketed as perfume has between 20 and 40 percent aromatic substances. Eau de Parfum between 10 and 20 percent. Eau de Toilette is between 8 and 10 percent. Eau de Cologne from 3 to 8 percent.

In general, the higher the concentration of the perfume, the less quantity it takes to use and the more it lasts. On the other hand, Parfum and Eau de Parfum can be too strong for some people, especially in the summer season. Meaning, that an Eau de Toilette can be perfect and fresh.

It is perfect for the hottest times, and as it is light aromas you can use a lot without fear of overcharging. The negative part is that the smell will not last more than couple of hours, so you will have to repeat the application many times. It is also the cheapest option of them all. Some brands they never create this category.

Then you have the Elixir which is even higher that the Parfum which is, in more cases, the same as Parfum with a little more concentration. In others, it is a more intense version in which some of the notes of the original perfume vary. It is usually sold in 30 ml bottles and with a much higher price.

Now you know the differences between all the format of the fragrances. Make sure you enjoy wearing your favourite one without wondering why it doesn’t last long or why is it too strong.
