The Ideal Skincare Routine for Combination Skin

How to Treat Combination Skin Type?

There are two types of skin – dry skin and oily skin. Some people have skin that is a combination of both oily and dry skin. They would usually have dry skin everywhere except on the forehead, nose, and chin. Such skin requires a different type of care. A question people with combination skin would have is whether they should use products meant for oily skin or dry skin. We present the best skincare routine for people who have combination skin.

Here is Your Best Skincare Routine for Combination Skin

The ideal skincare routine for combination skin should use products that are gentle on the skin and do not increase oiliness. Here are some things to keep in mind while choosing products for combination skin:

  • You need to find a moisturizer that when used on dry areas does not cause excess oiliness. Applying a thicker coat on the drier areas is a good strategy to use.
  • Products with hyaluronic acid can be helpful since it hydrates dry skin without making the oily areas greasy.
  • Antioxidant creams with vitamin C can help keep dry skin soft.
  • Salicylic acid in the product can help to keep the pores unclogged this preventing excess oiliness.
  • Products having synthetic fragrances can irritate the dry skin.
  • Products that are non-comodogenic help in preventing the pores from clogging. They are best for people with combination skin.
  • Coconut oil and Shea butter are best for keeping dry skin soft.

  1. Start with a cleanser that removes buildup from the previous day.
  2. Use an alcohol-free toner that removes any oil that is left over.
  3. A serum with hyaluronic acid can hydrate the skin and protect it.
  4. While moisturizing the skin, a creamy formula can be used on the dry areas while a water-based and lightweight formula can be used for the oily areas.
  5. A sunscreen with SPF of 30 and above should be applied. Avoid using a moisturizer with SPF factor.
  6. Makeup should be used next and oil-free products should be used.

Routine for the Evening

At the end of the day, the body would be tired. The skin would have dirt, grime, and makeup that needs to be removed. The skincare treatment in the evening can be done as follows (using the order shown):

  1. If makeup has been used, then a makeup remover is needed since the makeup can clog the pores. Micellar water is a good option to use.
  2. Once makeup is removed, a cleanser is needed to completely cleanse the skin of all impurities.
  3. A gentle exfoliant is needed to be used at least once every week. This helps to get rid of dead skin cells that can clog up pores.
  4. Another activity to do minimum once a week is to use a face mask. For combo skin, different masks are needed for the oily area and the dry area. Different products can be used for this.
  5. A moisturizer that is rich in emollients can be used with or without a serum. This is more effective at nighttime.
