Sensitive skin is a common skin type that most people suffer from. The term refers to skin that is more prone to inflammation or reactions.
The characteristics of sensitive skin are; thin, clear, sometimes a little dry skin. Sensitive skin reddens easily (it may be the beginning of rosacea). People with sensitive skin may have strong reactions to chemicals, dyes, and fragrances present in products that come into contact with the skin.
Sensitive skin loses part of its natural defences and becomes weak, as well as loosing the natural protective barrier of the skin, therefore, making it easier for bacteria or harmful substances to enter your body.
This type of skin can appear in different areas of your body. The most common are: the face, lips, hands and scalp. Thus, despite sharing some similarities with dry skin, sensitive skin is not always related to this process, nor will its symptoms be cured in the same way.
Here are some steps to follow if you want to take care of your sensitive skin:
- Always use a cream that protects your skin against harmful environmental factors.
- Avoid using products that contain fragrances to avoid getting your skin irritated.
- Make sure you never rub your skin with the towel after you wash your skin.
- Spicy food and direct exposure to the sun should be always avoided.
