Why Is Dehydration Bad for Your Skin?

Dehydration affects your skin’s ability to perform essential functions like cell turnover. Without adequate hydration, your skin does not shed its outer layer frequently enough, and dead cells accumulate on its surface. This contributes to clogged pores, congestion and a lacklustre complexion. The human body is about 60% water, and the skin is our biggest organ by far.

Dehydration can lead to serious complications, apart from damaging your skin’s natural beauty.

Dehydration occurs when you use or lose more fluid than you take in, and your body does not have enough water and other fluids to carry out its normal functions. If you don’t replace the fluids you lost, you will become dehydrated.

More than once, you probably noticed that your skin seems dull, without vitality and that makes your face look tired, well, this is due to dehydration of the skin. Another symptom that will help you identify dehydrated skin is lack of smoothness; that is, the skin begins to peel as if it were peeling, and sometimes it can even cause itching. This causes our skin to be uneven and appear more irregular and rough.

The appearance of wrinkles.

Dehydrated skin tends to generate fewer pimples or blemishes but is also more likely to have wrinkles due to premature ageing. This is another symptom that can be associated with dehydration of the skin. To prevent dehydration, drink plenty of fluids and eat foods rich in water, such as fruits and vegetables. Letting thirst be your guide is a good daily guideline for most healthy people.
